As competition in the job market intensifies, an applicant’s first impression in an interview is attracting attention as an important competitive factor. Employers prioritize job-related ability and expertise, but within a short interview, a confident attitude, a neat appearance and an impression of trustworthiness can also contribute to a positive assessment.

Job seekers are therefore paying attention not only to their qualifications but also to their outward image through hairstyles, skin care and fashion. More men have recently been seeking medical consultations for natural-looking improvements in their appearance.

A bright, neat appearance has become so desirable that the expression “a face that gets you straight through an interview” has emerged. This refers not simply to being handsome, but to looking alert and trustworthy rather than tired or listless. Among male job seekers, demand continues for a natural appearance that considers the balance of the whole face, including the eyes, nose and skin condition.

Against this background, consultations about ptosis correction for men, under-eye fat repositioning and rhinoplasty are also increasing. Ptosis correction for men considers eyelid structure and eye-opening strength to help create a more defined, alert eye appearance and can be used to improve a sleepy or closed-in look.

Under-eye fat repositioning redistributes protruding fat to address hollow areas, with the aim of reducing dark circles and a shadowed appearance for a more lively look. Rhinoplasty can also help refine the overall impression by improving the balance of the nose at the center of the face, so it is often discussed alongside these procedures.

Medical professionals nevertheless advise that allowing enough recovery time is the most important consideration when contemplating cosmetic surgery before starting a job. The time needed for swelling and bruising to resolve varies between individuals, and rushing surgery to fit an interview date may reduce satisfaction with the outcome. Rather than trying to change appearance quickly, it is advisable to discuss facial structure and the recovery schedule thoroughly during consultation.

Dr. Park Kisoo, plastic surgery specialist and director at JAYJUN Plastic Surgery, said: “The number of men seeking appearance consultations before employment or interviews continues to grow. What matters, however, is pursuing natural changes that harmonize with one’s own facial structure, rather than creating a fashionable face. The suitability of ptosis correction for men, rhinoplasty or under-eye fat repositioning should be assessed after carefully considering individual anatomy, eye function and daily routines.”

He emphasized: “If the goal is specifically a near-term interview, it is essential to check whether enough recovery time can be allowed and to make a careful decision after thorough consultation with a specialist.”
