Revision eye surgery is more difficult than the first surgery... Requires accurate diagnosis and planning

Eye plastic surgery is considered one of the most popular plastic surgeries performed in Korea. Although it is a surgery with a relatively high level of satisfaction, there are many cases in which reoperation is considered for various reasons, such as the double eyelid line loosening over time or left-right asymmetry occurring. In particular, interest in revision eye surgery is steadily increasing as designs that were popular in the past do not match the current image or as tissue around the eyes changes due to aging.Typical reasons for considering revision eye surgery include blurred or loose double eyelid lines, asymmetry where the height or shape of the left and right sides appear different, and excessively thick or unnatural lines. Additionally, even if you lack the strength to open your eyes, giving a sleepy appearance or accompanied by sagging eyelids, you can try to improve through re-correction. Recently, as the tendency to value a natural look and harmony of the entire face beyond simply creating clear eyes has become stronger, the number of people seeking revision surgery consultations is increasing.
However, revision eye surgery requires a more careful approach than the first surgery. Since scars or adhesions may remain in tissues that have already undergone surgery, it may be difficult to expect satisfactory results by simply removing the existing line and creating a new line in this condition. Rather, surgery that does not sufficiently consider the tissue condition may worsen scars or lead to unnatural results.
Therefore, before revision eye surgery, it is important to comprehensively evaluate the current skin condition and tissue thickness of the eyelids, the degree of existing adhesions, and the function of the eye-opening muscles. Since each individual's eye structure, surgical history, and tissue recovery status are different, a customized surgical plan based on accurate diagnosis is needed rather than a uniform method.
Deciding the timing of reoperation is also an important factor. Immediately after surgery, it is difficult to accurately judge the actual results due to swelling and scarring. If reoperation is rushed without sufficient recovery time, not only will it be difficult to accurately identify the cause of the problem, but tissue damage may increase. In general, it is advisable to have sufficient consultation with a specialist after the eye condition has stabilized to decide whether to undergo reoperation and the appropriate surgical method.
JAYJUN Plastic Surgery Director Ha Kiyoung (plastic surgery specialist) explained, “Revision eye surgery is not simply a concept of recreating the existing double eyelid line, but a process of closely analyzing the current function and tissue condition of the eye and then setting a direction for improvement.” The doctor added, “Especially as the eyes are an important part that determines the overall impression of the face, we can expect highly satisfactory results by considering not only cosmetic factors but also functional and anatomical factors.”
The doctor then advised, “For successful eye reoperation, an accurate diagnosis and sufficient consultation regarding the current eye condition must be given priority, and it is important to establish a customized surgical plan that reflects individual characteristics.”
