Recently, as the plastic surgery trend favoring a natural look has spread, interest in ‘non-incision double eyelid surgery’ has been steadily increasing. As attention is being paid to adding clarity to the eyes without compromising their original look rather than overly clear eyes, an increasing number of people are looking for procedures that are relatively less burdensome.

Non-incision double eyelid surgery is commonly referred to as the ‘buried-suture method’ as it uses a thread to form a line through a tiny hole without making an incision in the eyelid skin. Recently, it has been introduced as a ‘natural adhesion method’ that makes adhesion stronger by removing an appropriate amount of tissue such as fat or muscle through a hole. Because there is no incision process, there is less tissue damage, faster recovery, and almost no scars. It is considered a suitable method for busy modern people in that it allows for a quick return to daily life.

In addition, if you are not satisfied with the results of the surgery or need to change the line, another advantage is that it can be removed or re-operated relatively easily. These features serve as a factor in reducing the psychological burden on those considering their first double eyelid surgery.

However, the non-incision method is not suitable in all cases. In general, it is effective when the eyelid skin is thin and there is little fat, but when the eyelids are thick or have a lot of fat, the line fixed with thread can easily come loose. In particular, if you have a habit of rubbing your eyes frequently or if your skin has poor elasticity, caution is required as the retention may be lowered.

Additionally, in cases of ptosis or droopy eyelids, functional improvement may be difficult with simple non-incision methods. In these cases, more satisfactory results can be expected only when additional surgery such as incision or ptosis correction is performed.

Park Cheolheum, director of JAYJUN Plastic Surgery (plastic surgery specialist), emphasizes, “Non-incision double eyelid surgery may seem simple, but a careful approach is necessary as the results can vary greatly depending on the individual’s eye structure.”

The explanation is that rather than deciding on a surgical method simply because recovery is fast, a personalized consultation that comprehensively considers factors such as eyelid thickness, fat volume, skin elasticity, and eye-opening strength should come first.

Director Park Cheolheum continued, “Recently, as the tendency to emphasize naturalness has become stronger, many people are looking for non-incision double eyelid surgery, but the appropriate surgical method may vary depending on each individual’s eye condition,” and advised, “It is important to select the method that is right for you through sufficient consultation with an experienced medical staff.”
