The skin around the eyes is the thinnest of facial areas and undergoes frequent repetitive movement, and aging changes appear relatively quickly. In particular, when the eyelid skin begins to sag, the existing double eyelid line becomes covered with skin and becomes blurred, which can make the eyes look small or give the impression of being stuffy and tired. These changes go beyond appearance problems and can also lead to functional inconveniences that obscure vision.
When drooping eyelids become severe, people unconsciously use their forehead muscles to open their eyes to secure their vision. This often causes forehead wrinkles to deepen, fatigue around the eyes and forehead, and headaches. To improve these symptoms, eye plastic surgery that is typically performed on middle-aged people is ‘sub-brow lift surgery.’
This surgery, called eyebrow lift or subbrow lift, is characterized by improving sagging eyelid skin while maintaining the original eye shape and impression as much as possible without creating or changing the double eyelid line. Compared to upper eyelid surgery, it is known to be a surgical method that can be considered even in cases where there was hesitation about previous surgery as there is less burden on changes in the appearance and concerns about scar exposure or recovery period are relatively low.
Because of the name ‘elevation,’ it is easy to perceive it as a surgery that is only possible after middle age, but in reality, it can be applied to younger age groups as well, depending on the individual’s degree of eyelid sagging, eyebrow position, and skin elasticity. However, as it is difficult to expect the same results in all cases, it is important to comprehensively consider individual eye structure and aging progression rather than simple age criteria.
JAYJUN Plastic Surgery Chief Medical Director Park Hyungjoon (plastic surgery specialist) said, “When considering sub-brow lift surgery, it is essential to accurately diagnose whether you are a suitable case for the surgery.” He explained, “The key to increasing satisfaction is establishing a customized surgery plan that considers functional improvement and aesthetic harmony at the same time through consultation with a specialist with sufficient clinical experience.”
