Things that were considered standards of beauty or good looks in the past often change in modern times. For example, a bulbous nose used to be considered a positive characteristic, as it was said to bring good luck in physiognomy, but today, a bulbous nose is perceived as a dull and unsophisticated image, so many people seek to improve it through plastic surgery.

A bulbous nose refers to a nose in which the cartilage at the tip of the nose is wide open or overdeveloped, or the soft tissue is thick or has a lot of fat. Recently, there is a tendency to prefer a sophisticated look such as a sharp, high bridge of the nose and narrow nasal alae. In particular, the nose is located at the center line of the face, so even small changes can make a big difference and have a great influence on forming first impressions.

When considering bulbous nose correction, you should not simply focus on changing the shape of your nose to be slimmer or narrower, but also take into account parts that are not visible to the eye.

A bulbous nose that looks blunt and wide at the tip of the nose can usually have multiple causes, such as cartilage structure, skin thickness, and width of the nasal alae, and bending or obstruction within the nose must also be taken into consideration. In addition, the surgical method for bulbous nose can vary greatly depending on the cause and type.

If the cartilage is large and gaping, it may be necessary to remove part of the cartilage, bring the gaping part together, and raise the tip of the nose using autologous cartilage such as the nasal septum or ear cartilage. For a bulbous nose with thick skin or fat, a method can be used to remove subcutaneous fat, and for a nose that is broad and flat due to weak development of the cartilage at the tip of the nose, a method can be used to improve the shape by reinforcing the cartilage and strengthening the support. In some cases, the nose can be improved more effectively by combining alar reduction, and here again, the method that suits the individual, such as external incision or internal incision, varies depending on the individual.

Likewise, even with bulbous nose correction, satisfactory results can be achieved by considering the differences in anatomical structure depending on the type, the individual's desired image, and design elements that match the facial features ratio, etc., so selecting an experienced medical staff and careful diagnosis and consultation are essential.

Kang Hyungjoo, director of JAYJUN Plastic Surgery, said, "As the number of people who want a sophisticated look increases, the demand for bulbous nose surgery is also increasing. For a bulbous nose, it may be difficult to see results with simple surgical methods such as raising the bridge of the nose or making an incision in the wide area to narrow it, so it is better to carefully plan customized rhinoplasty by type," adding, "Please be sure to check whether the medical staff performing the surgery has experience with various types of rhinoplasty, and whether they use equipment such as 3D-CT that can examine the inside of the nose."
