Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, eye plastic surgery consultations among middle-aged people are increasing. This is because it is a time when people can have enough time to rest, and the social and economic activities of middle-aged people are becoming more active, so the demand for facial rejuvenation surgery is increasing.

In particular, the area around the eyes has thin skin and quickly weakens in fat and muscle support, making aging particularly noticeable. This not only causes cosmetic concerns but also functional discomforts such as obstructed vision and irritation around the eyes. These cosmetic and functional issues can be improved with relatively simple plastic surgery.

The most common middle-aged eye plastic surgeries are the upper and lower eyelids. Upper eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure that corrects sagging by excising the sagging eyelid skin and some muscles and pulling it upward and fixing it. It can also correct the deformed double eyelid line. It is effective for those whose vision is blocked by sagging upper eyelids and who overuse their forehead muscles. It can also improve eyelashes poking the cornea and fatigue caused by heavy eyelids.

Lower eyelid surgery simultaneously corrects protruding orbital fat and sagging skin under the eyes. This method involves partially removing or repositioning the protruding orbital fat and tightening and fixing the sagging skin and muscles to alleviate wrinkles and shadows, making the lower eyelid area appear brighter and the overall impression more lively.

It should be noted that even if the same surgery is used for middle-aged eye plastic surgery, there are many variables, such as fixation method, degree of pulling, and whether additional procedures should be considered, depending on the individual's skin condition. For example, if you do not want to change the existing double eyelid line or if the skin over the eyes is thick and saggy, consider a sub-brow lift, or if the gap between the eyebrows and eyelids is narrow, correction may be possible with methods such as endoscopic forehead lift, so detailed consultation is necessary.

Park Hyungjoon, Chief Medical Director of JAYJUN Plastic Surgery, said, "Middle-aged eye plastic surgery should consider cosmetic effects, but functional improvement is also significant. Therefore, a personalized plan is more important than a standardized method. Various factors such as skin thickness and elasticity, fat distribution, and eyebrow position must be considered, and satisfactory results can be achieved only when a surgical plan is made by comprehensively reflecting the structural causes of sagging, facial features ratio, and image. It is advisable to first receive detailed, customized consultation with medical staff who understand the characteristics of middle-aged eye plastic surgery well and have extensive relevant experience,” he said.
