Since the nose is located in the center of the face, it is a key element that determines the overall impression.Even slight changes in the angle, height, or width of the nose can drastically alter the overall image, making this field as in demand today as eyelid surgery. However, it is also a reality that there are not a few cases of side effects or revision surgeries. The types of complexes people have regarding the shape of their nose are very diverse, including low noses, low nasal bridges, hooked noses, bulbous noses, and crooked noses.
However, it should be noted that if surgery is performed without sufficient consideration, the risk of side effects such as inflammatory reactions and contractures as well as cosmetic dissatisfaction increases. In particular, reoperation is more complicated and more difficult than the first surgery, so it is important to accurately understand the anatomical structure of the outside and inside of the nose from the beginning and approach it carefully.
Rhinoplasty materials used during surgery are largely divided into autologous tissue and artificial implants, and are important enough to determine the outcome of rhinoplasty. Autologous tissues include ear cartilage, septal cartilage, autologous costal cartilage, fascia, and dermis, and artificial implants include silicone, donor costal cartilage, and artificial dermis. Usually, ear cartilage, septal cartilage, and costal cartilage are used for the tip of the nose, and silicone implants are commonly used for the bridge of the nose.
However, if the existing nasal bridge is already somewhat defined, non-implant surgery without silicone is also possible. If one wants to improve a bumpy nasal bridge without osteotomy, a method using a custom implant after diagnosis with 3D-CT can also be considered. Custom implants have excellent contact adhesion, are less likely to shift, and usually provide higher satisfaction than general implants.
Since each material has different pros and cons and adaptation results, it is advisable to select the optimal material after accurately understanding the patient's condition and needs. You can expect safe and satisfactory results only if you undergo sufficient consultation before surgery and proceed under the judgment of an experienced medical staff.
Dr. Park Kisoo, director of JAYJUN Plastic Surgery, advised, "Rhinoplasty is not simply about heightening, but is a sophisticated surgery that requires both function and aesthetics to be considered. Whether it is the first surgery or a reoperation, understanding anatomy and selecting the correct material are important for rhinoplasty, and careful consultation with an experienced specialist should be a top priority."
