You cannot stop time, but you can put the brakes on how your eyes age! Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ha Kiyoung explains three types of aging above the eyes. 1. Drooping eyelids (the frustrating sag at the outer corners). The inner and outer parts age differently: fine wrinkles appear toward the inner corner, while the outer portion droops. The key is to remove that excess outer skin with upper blepharoplasty or a sub-brow lift! Combining it with a forehead lift can soften your expression.

2. Hollow upper eyelids (when the orbital fat that keeps things moving smoothly retreats). As the fat above the eyes moves backward with age, the area can look deeply hollow. Mild cases? Fat grafting! In more pronounced cases, lowering the upper-eyelid fat or combining it with ptosis correction can restore fullness naturally, without an uneven surface.

3. Reduced eyelid-opening strength (escaping a sleepy appearance). The surgeon’s trick is to shorten the ‘ligament’, rather than the muscle itself, so the eyes open wider. Choose the method for your own eyes: a non-incisional technique (tying) for a subtle, natural change, or an incisional technique (cutting) for stronger fixation and a more definite change. Fact check! Eyelid surgery is fundamentally about harmony with your overall expression, as well as making the eyes look bigger. Do not overdo it now and regret being unable to have a touch-up as you get older! Watch the full video for a thoughtful approach to younger-looking eyes that also considers future revision surgery.
